Resume
Alan’s practice is multi-faceted in that he is an advocate, quasi judge, and teacher. He is a business litigator who specializes in construction litigation, and appears in trial courts throughout Michigan. Aside from participating in abundant trials, arbitrations, case evaluations, mediations, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings, Alan has been appointed/hired by judges and fellow attorneys as a Mediator, Arbitrator, Case Evaluator, and Expert Witness. He is especially known for successfully mediating the most complex, multi-party cases and also judges’ “dogs of the docket”.
Alan has authored various publications and columns. Most significant to him is the unpublished Construction Document Program, which he developed and uses to train businesses and individuals on the process of perfecting construction lien and construction payment bond claims. This non-legal approach enables clerical staff to comply with statutory requirements without the aid of law school. Those sessions and other seminars and lectures have earned Alan the nickname, “Mr. Lien”.
Alan has managed the law firm for a number of years and spearheaded construction of the firm’s new office. He helped develop and author Genesee County’s ADR Plan, served as Vice Chair of the Genesee County Bar Association’s ADR Committee and has been a Member of the ADR Appointment Committee. He is the current Chairperson and a longtime member of the Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission. His resume includes current and past service on many other community boards and committees.
Alan, wife Sharon, and two daughters, Jill and Ava, reside in Grand Blanc, Michigan.
